Delivering Clean Energy Solutions (DCES)

Residents in the Cities of Banyule, Darebin, Hume, Manningham, Melbourne, Moreland, Whittlesea, Yarra and Nillumbik Shire Council  are now being offered the opportunity to become involved in a new program called Delivering Clean Energy Solutions (DCES).

The program is a community bulk buy program offering energy efficient, high quality and cost effective clean energy solutions to homes.

The program is aimed at facilitating the purchase, installation and commissioning of solar panels and solar hot water systems for 1,000 homes across northern metropolitan Melbourne.

DCES is managed by the Moreland Energy Foundation in partnership with the participating councils, and Yarra Energy Foundation and is supported by the Victorian Government Sustainability Fund, managed by Sustainability Victoria.

Higher Residential Energy Rating Standards

The 2011 Building Code of Australia introduced higher star ratings for class 1 and 2 buildings. From May 1st 2011, all new homes, home renovations, alterations and additions must achieve the following standards:

Detached Houses and Townhouses (BCA Class 1): 
6 star energy rating

Apartments (BCA Class 2):
Buildings must achieve an average rating of 6 stars with a minimum 5 star rating for any apartment.

If you are intending to build, renovate or extend your home or re-locate an existing home after May 1st 2011, the design of your new home, extension or renovation will need to take account of the new 6 Star Standard.
